American Patriotic Songs for Preschoolers

Here's a list of songs that can be used in the preschool classroom during Independence Day, Memorial Day or Veterans' Day.  You can teach the children to sing some of them and others you can use for marching or beat-keeping activities.  However the songs are used in the classroom or at home, they all provide opportunities to instill a love for America in our children.

America the Beautiful
The Star Spangled Banner
This Land is Your Land

Free Patriotic Music at Amazon!

Amazon currently has versions of America the Beautiful and Yankee Doodle Boy available for FREE!!  Both renditions are excellent for use in the preschool classroom.  I don't know how long the songs will be available at no cost, so hurry to Amazon and download your copies today.

Yankee Doodle Boy is an upbeat song recorded by Kidsongs on their 'My Favorite Kidsongs Collection' CD.    This rendition uses a children's choir and one male voice. The male voice blends in perfectly and does not overpower the young voices at all.

America the Beautiful is recorded by The Countdown Kids on the 'Hector's Favorite Patriotic Songs' CD and is sung by the pure, sweet voice of a young boy.  This recording is a perfect example of how young children should sing:  no belting, no scooping the voice between notes, nothing forced or artificial, just the perfect, pure tone of a child's voice.

Download your free music, pull out the flags and let the children march around the room, waving flags.  This is a great opportunity to help instill a love for the United States in our young preschool children!

Patriotic Preschoolers

For the next two or three weeks I will be teaching my preschooler to sing the great patriotic song "America the Beautiful".  Since the language of the song can be a bit foreign to preschoolers, I have decided to use pictures to help teach the lyrics.  I printed out pictures that illustrate each line of the song.  Here's what I've done:

O beautiful for spacious skies

For amber waves of grain

For purple mountain majesty

Above the fruited plain

America! America!  God shed his grace on thee

And crown thy good with brotherhood

From sea to shining sea

(America the Beautiful was written and composed by Kathleen Bates in 1893 after experiencing the magnificence of Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs)
